Ian Torr

Ian Torr

Ian is Cleggs’ Managing Partner and has been in Private Practice as a Solicitor for 35 years.   Ian is Head of Commercial Property and Corporate.

His activities include:

  • Commercial property acquisitions and disposals;
  • Commercial leases acting for both Landlords and Tenants.

In addition Ian is responsible for:

  • Business purchases and sales predominantly of owner-managed businesses;
  • Advising in connection with partnership formation and dissolution;
  • Company share acquisitions and disposals;
  • Advising businesses generally in relation to commercial legal matters;
  • All other aspects of commercial property.
Mark Williams

Mark Williams

Mark Williams is a Director and Head of Private Client at Cleggs. Having joined the firm in 1994 he has nearly thirty years experience in wills, trust and probate, and higher value residential property matters, both locally and across the country.

Lisa Wainwright

Lisa Wainwright

Lisa joined the firm in 2015 and was made a Director shortly afterwards. With more than 15 years’ experience, she specialises in commercial litigation and is also an accredited mediator. She was named in the Legal 500 in 2013. Areas of Lisa’s expertise include automotive, contract and commercial disputes, construction disputes, and credit hire debt recovery. She is also an expert in property disputes (including dilapidation claims and lease termination/renewals), professional negligence and trust disputes.

David Vaughan-Birch

David Vaughan-Birch

David qualified in 1991, and was made a Director on 1 October 2004; he specialises in private and commercial litigation, and has particular interests in technical, computing and engineering disputes, intellectual and real property, boundary disputes and private and commercial Landlord and Tenant claims. He has dealt with many large-scale actions (some of which have gone to the Court of Appeal), and has participated in several reported cases. He has a degree in Biophysics and a Master’s degree in Biological Engineering.

Alison Belfield

Alison Belfield

Alison was made a Director on 1 December 2015 and qualified via the vocational route, initially as a Legal Executive then latterly as a Solicitor qualifying in 2008 from Nottingham Trent University.

Alison is doing the 2017 Moonwalk challenge, and will set off at midnight to walk the length of a marathon course around Edinburgh on 10 June. To sponsor her, click here!

Leah McSherry

Leah joined Cleggs in 2006, and became a Director in December 2015.

Leah specialises in Commercial and Residential Property, covering a wide range of areas, including: –

  • Sales and purchases
  • All aspects of Leases, including Lease Extensions, Enfranchisement and Right to Buy
  • Commercial Leases acting for both Landlord or Tenant
  • Acquisitions and sales of Businesses including Lease Assignment

Jayne Harrison

Jayne Harrison

Jayne Harrison joined Cleggs on 1 March 2016 as a director and head of our employment department. She trained at a top 100 law firm and for the last 11 years Jayne was a partner and head of the employment department at Chattertons Solicitors. Jayne advises on all areas of employment law including tribunal advocacy, discrimination, dismissals, contracts of employment, staff handbooks, TUPE, settlement agreements, grievances and disciplinaries. Jayne was noted in the Legal 500 for her experience in employment law, and forms our employment department together with Emma Tegerdine.

Fay Williams

Fay Williams

Fay qualified as a Solicitor in 1990 and has worked for us since 1998. She heads up our Personal Injury department which includes Elizabeth Royall, solicitor, Claire Dickerson and Debbie Stephens, Paralegals.

She has specialised in Claimant personal injury work since qualification and has particular expertise in work related accident claims as for many years she had undertaken work for a trade union. She also deals with public liability claims including slips and trips, RTA claims and product liability claims.

Her department deals with Claims on a no win no fee basis.

Martin Hall

Martin Hall

Martin Hall is a solicitor and consultant with Cleggs. Martin joined Cleggs in 2009.

Martin specialises in all aspects of Company and Commercial Law, with strong emphasis in mergers, acquisitions, company reconstructions, management buy-outs, business sales, joint ventures, shareholder agreements, partnerships, franchising, and construction contracts.

Qualifying as both a Solicitor and Chartered Accountant gives Martin the broad range of skills necessary to assist in the successful, timely and cost effective completion of his client’s transactions.

Emma Tegerdine

Emma Tegerdine

Emma trained at a large regional law firm and has specialised in employment law since qualification. She was a Senior Law Lecturer at Nottingham Law School for 9 years, before returning to private practice in 2011 and joining Cleggs in 2015. Emma specialises in all aspects of employment law, including bringing and defending employment tribunal claims, advising on a wide range of HR issues, drafting employment contacts and consultancy agreements, delivering bespoke training sessions and advising on settlement agreements. She is experienced, approachable and straight-talking, and together with Jayne Harrison is part of our Employment Team.

Carolyn Thackstone

Carolyn Thackstone

Carolyn qualified as a solicitor in 2005 and has recently re-joined the legal profession after undertaking a Business Development role for the past 8 years for a US company.

Carolyn specialises in residential property, including new build developments and joined Cleggs in July 2016.

Elizabeth Royall

Elizabeth Royall

Elizabeth has worked in Personal Injury since 2012 having joined Cleggs in 2014. She qualified as a solicitor in April 2017.

Jane Burton

Jane heads the New Build Property team and has been with the firm for over 17 years. Reliability, commitment to clients’ interests, and attention to detail are always Jane’s top priorities. Extremely personable and popular with clients and Agents, Jane brings a very personal touch to the conveyancing process

Lisa Shambrook

Lisa Shambrook

Lisa joined Cleggs in 2015 and specialises in new build plot purchases. This includes all aspects of the help to buy scheme as well as part exchanges.

Suzi has been with Cleggs since 2013 and is part of the New build team. Within residential conveyancing she specialises in New Build plot purchases which includes all aspects of the Help to buy scheme as well as part exchanges and private sales.

Debbie Stephens

Debbie Stephens

Debbie has over 25 years experience working in a legal environment. Having worked for over 17 years for one company in the East Midlands as a legal secretary in their employment and company commercial department and then for 2 years in their personal injury department.

Debbie joined Cleggs in July 2016 as a Paralegal in the Personal Injury Department.
